Stop fighting it
Just Do It
I have a sneaky suspicion many of my blogs will be about how I would fight with God to follow his directions and end up being obedient… anyway. HA!
If you read my previous blog “Now What” then you know I’m in a season of consistency and doing, with no excuses. I’m going to become who I want to be and I’m starting by doing the things I’ve always said I wanted to do. I have a list of things I want to start incorporating in my life, one thing is having a morning routine.
God has been telling me for YEARS (at least 5yrs now), I need to start my day at 5:00am. I knew it couldn’t be God because God knew I wasn’t a morning person and waking up at the crack of dawn wasn’t something I could do. This feeling of waking up early started intensifying over time, so much so, I knew it was a directive from God and I was just being disobedient. You know that guilty feeling you have, when you KNOW you aren’t listening to what God told you to do? I know it oh too well
The directive was to start my day hours before my day actually starts. At the time I didn’t have to leave my house until about 7:30am, so waking up at 5:00am would give me a good head start to my day. Needless to say I wouldn’t be waking up until 7:00ish. Of course stressed, rushing, literally running to catch my train. Just a bunch of flustered mornings.
Here is where God be Godding….
I got promoted, (that’s a story for a youtube video, talk about GOD turning things around.. SHEESH) and guess what time I had to leave my house to get to work in my new position… YUP, 5:00am. HA! God was like “I’m preparing you, just listen”. After some time, I started getting comfortable at work and started getting there later and later, back to being disobedient.
Then I finally got the green light to move to Maryland, something we’ve been trying to do for years. AWESOME! But with my new office, I didn’t have to be to work until 7:30am and I was only 10min away. Having read thus far, do you think I got up for my 5:00am morning call with God? Especially since he performed this miracle of my move (another post for another day) If you said NO, you are correct! IRONICALLY, when I first moved to MD, I stayed with my brother and sister n law for a month, and guess what time they start their day? YUP, no later than 5:00am. My brother n law was in the military so those early morning routines was a cake walk for him.
Fast forward to the pandemic and working from home and having the ability to go from bed-to-desk-to-work……. I don’t have to tell you I definitely wasn’t trying to wake up any earlier than I had to be.
This may be a great place to add in: I was extremely out of line and at this point being blatantly disobedient to God’s direction of a 5:00am wake up. Especially since my desire was to become more like the Proverbs 31 wife.
Fast Forward to the point of the post…….
My new work schedule has me starting my day at 3:30am, YES… 3:30am! So now I have no choice but to be up for 5:00am. I love that when God has an assignment on your life he will get you in order…whether you want to be or not.
However, I now understand that window I take starting at 5:00am to get ready for my day has been exactly what the doctor ordered. Especially going into the entrepreneurship space, routines matter and starting your day with a morning routine can really help direct the flow of your day.
I literally fought this up until I had no choice, and I thank GOD he forced me into this new habit.
My morning routine consist of:
Prayer – This time allows me to fervently pray over anything my heart desires without distraction.
The Word – Allows me time to learn God through his word.
Inspirational Messages – Allows me time to mentally fill myself up on positive thoughts, affirmations and ideas for the day.
Business – Allows me some time to either create, research or learn something specific for my business.
This particular morning during my prayer, I was overwhelmed with praise. I took advantage of this beautiful weather we are having in January and my prayer time with God on my patio. Thanking God for forcing me into obedience, because having that time and space has truly brought such peace to my days. Especially since I struggled through the years with depression and anxiety.
Taking the necessary time in the morning allows for me to:
Destress, be still, and hear from God.
Which makes for a better and more productive Kalia throughout the day.
If you are not an early riser, like myself… I would like to challenge you to try it, at least start with once a week. It doesn’t matter if you are trying to build a business or not; if you have a family, a job, or anything else you have to tend to throughout the day… you need a moment to yourself in the morning.
Trust me when I tell you, I know it feels good to get those extra few hours of sleep; but it feels even better to have a day filled with peace. Your mental health will thank you. Just Do It!
